GAZA: Setler colonialism, apartheid and resistance panel discussion

Want to know more about what’s going down (and has been going down since 1948) in Gaza, and by extension the Palestinian territory?  Come along to this panel discussion. No boring speeches, just the hard facts and (geo)political context behind the Palestine/Israel ‘conflict’. Good for anyone who doesn’t know much, but wants to learn.

Some of questions the panelists will be tackling include:
– Why is this not a ‘two-sided conflict’?
– Was Hamas asking for it? Why’d they reject the cease-fire?
– Why do people refer to Israel as an ‘apartheid’ state?
– What are the parallels between the settler colonialism of Aotearoa and Palestine? Why’s it important?
– What is NZ’s role in supporting the siege/bombardment of Gaza and the ongoing occupation of Palestine?
– How can we engage and express our solidarity with the people of Palestine in proactive meaningful ways?

Mark your calendars for WEDNESDAY 30th July @ 6pm! Panel starts at 6.30pm in lecture theatre 260-098, OGGB (Business School).

Confirmed panelists:

Professor Jane Kelsey (PhD, MPhil, BCL, LLB(Hons)) – is a lecturer in the Law faculty at the University of Auckland and is one of NZ’s best-known critical commentators on issues of globalisation, structural adjustment and decolonisation.
David Mayeda – PhD, is a lecturer at the University of Auckland in Sociology who teaches and researches in the area of violence prevention.
Nadia Filistin – Palestinian, Auckland Action Against Poverty (AAAP) coordinator and local activist
