So where is David Farrar’s astroturf fake union, the Taxpayer’s Union, to criticise the quarter of a million spent on luxury wine and food to woo the oil industry then?

Luxury oil summit during Rugby Cup was an ‘investment’
Energy Minister Simon Bridges is defending a $240,000 bill for taxpayers to wine and dine 11 oil executives – including four nights’ luxury accommodation, a sailing trip and the royal treatment for two games during the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Why is it that the Taxpayer’s Union can get up on its hind legs and bleat about  Mojo Mathers spending money on flying to a radio station to do an interview on disabled rights which cost a couple of hundred dollars, yet they are so very silent on Simon Bridges blowing quarter of a million to flirt with oil executives whose business model threatens the long term viability of our clean green image?

The Taxpayer’s ‘union’ is a fake protest group created by Farrar to pretend to have some moral high ground on taxpayer issues.

When taxpayer money is spent on levelling the playing field for the most vulnerable, the Taxpayer Union like a white privileged war lord is there to piously denounce the cost, when taxpayer money is blown on corporate welfare for the corporations the Taxpayer Union loves, not a whisper.

2 Hours and 20 minutes after posting this, the Taxpayer’s ‘Union’ responded with some weak tsk tsking. You can see it here.

  1. Mr B , I’ve just dropped the story in their tipline. I wanna see the union step up for this one.

  2. I’m waiting for “Third Degree”, “Q+A”, or “The Nation” to do an expose on the true nature of the so-called “Taxpayers Union”.

    Nah. Not a chance.

That’ll be left to a real current affairs programme, “Native Affairs”.

  3. When I tweeted to the taxpayers union about this waste of money, I got a reply asking for donations.
    Classy….

  4. I suspect that Jordan Williams and his mates from the Taxpayers Union may have been invited as guests and thus attended at the same functions and parties, so no complaint can be expected to come from them re that, for sure.
