Kim Dotcom has said it, Laila Harre has said it and now David Fisher says it – so why did it happen?

Fascinating piece by David Fisher in the NZ Herald breaking down how many opportunities the Government had to listen to officials and stop KDC entering the country and concludes KDC should never have been allowed in

It prepared papers for the minister, which are still secret, telling him they were considering deportation and cancelling his residency. It would be incredible if Dr Coleman was not told at that stage exactly what “interest” the FBI had. In March 2012, the same month the FBI asked the NZ Police for help, they decided not to.

That was the fourth opportunity to stop Dotcom coming into the country.

Dotcom has incensed a section of the population over his continued presence in New Zealand. They are right to be incensed. He should never have been allowed entry, if everyone had done their jobs properly.

It echoes comments Laila has made and Kim Dotcom himself has made.

Which all leads to one simple question doesn’t it? Why were officials overruled and why after ‘political pressure’ was mentioned by the SIS suddenly Kim was allowed in?

Why did this Government let him into the country?

Why?

  1. I’m guessing this is a rhetorical question from Martyn as many of us have a bloody good idea of why he was allowed in.

  2. Knowing how this corrupt government operates, the intention was to give Kim Dotcom permanent residency in NZ hoping he would invest his money here, before Key & Co handed him over to the USA!

The latter point I’d say, was the main objective, for Key to ingratiate himself even more with his US masters!

  3. Key must now be regretting letting KDC in to appease his US masters.
Well , Key caught the big fish all right, but the Big One is now so so so much bigger than Key imagined and steadily sinking his boat. Key cannot even cut and run now. There were times when the likes of Mugabe and others of his ilk, attracted global scorn and wrath, but as is the classic NZ want to punch above it’s weight- we turn out this set of useless politicians who start making the KIms, Vladimirs and Roberts of this world look like seminarians. We truly are a cursed nation.

  4. Dotcom has incensed a section of the population over his continued presence in New Zealand.

Yeah, yeah Mr Fisher, we know the Herald speaks for that section of the plutocracy, but what about mentioning the more numerous section of the population incensed by Dotcom’s treatment since arrival and incensed at the subsequent erosion of our civil liberties that has resulted from the exposure of illegal operations undertaken by the NZ Police and GCSB.

  5. I remember reading an article that said the SIS refused entry, Key has a meeting with hollywood and overnight the SIS changes its mind.
The reason is that the FBI was investigating him before he came here and Dotcom was tossing up whether to come to NZ or go the Asia to live, FBI could still monitor him if he came to NZ via the 5 Eyes network so residency was granted.

  6. It doesn’t take long to click as to why the US attitude to NZ is so much more convivial these days. All that face time with Barack, those creepy golf games, the ones with Max caddying, wonderful PR and photo ops for the big ego.

But this sudden friendliness comes at a price because we don’t produce anything they want or in fact buy very much from them or that we are in a part of the globe that has no strategic importance.

And yet the US know how to play Key like a guitar, give him those photo ops, give him an Obama signed putter is all it takes , because what we do have that they want and what he is willing to provide is private information for sale or trade.

Few could argue that upon becoming PM, John Key brought about a new way of “doing business”, a wheeler dealer style he knew well punting currencies, well outside the norms of a typical western governments bureaucracy and accountability.

If you don’t believe it then look no further than trading labour laws protecting NZ workers for a film to be made here for a billionaire movie company and its millionaire director or the SkyCity convention centre deal giving Sky a licence to print money for the next 30 plus years with more gambling opportunities (plus TVNZ land) or the quiet removal of funding to the Problem Gambling Association, (critical of Keys Sky City deal) to ensure more gamblers were allowed the freedom to punt what they like with whoever’s money they liked regardless of whoever was hurt in the process. Losers can’t be helped.

That Key and National can’t see the problem with trading privacy like some commodity worryingly sums up how morally and ethically bankrupt they are!

    • I doubt it. Why kiwi’s become pawns for a bloated possible criminal with the sole purpose of a personal vendeta is anyones guess. The mans playing games with NZ politics, he’s got the money,he’sgot the pawn’s but politicely he’s going nowhwere. The sooner the fad fades the better.

      • That’s a terrible way to describe John Key – a bloated prawn with a sole purpose of a personal vendetta does however sum the PM up.
