Voicing Dissent
The Voicing Dissent exhibition is part of the Auckland Festival of Photography. Jos Wheeler’s photographs provide a counter-narrative to the images shown in mainstream media.
“Approaching his subjects with sensitivity, Wheeler works with a close empathy and appreciation for local communities, landscapes and political interests. His images advocate for voices that are often marginalised or distorted in their campaigning on issues regarding land and sea use, social issues and New Zealand’s heritage as a bicultural nation.”

When: 16 May – 11 July
Where: Lopdell House Gallery,5 Totara Ave, New Lynn

The Whale Rider
Witi Ihimaera’s classic comes to life on stage in time for the school holiday.

“This is an enchanting story about a girl who is destined to become a leader of her tribe but is prevented by her grandfather, until she rescues an ancient beached whale in Whangara Harbour.”

When: 5-19 July. Two shows daily at 10.30am and 2pm

The Wilderness
The epically talented and creative Blackbird Ensemble are back with The Wilderness

“It’s classical music, but not as you know it. Brimming with young talent and energy, the Blackbird Ensemble is critically acclaimed for its theatrically enhanced and sensorially enriched performances of music by living composers. This winter, the vivacious Blackbird Ensemble give the Southern Hemisphere premiere of Max Richter’s Four Seasons Recomposed. Richter has remixed, rescored and modernised Antonio Vivaldi’s Baroque masterpiece into an electrifying, pulsating display of violin virtuosity.”
