If you want to see mainstream media bias at work, check this out. So in he week National plummet in a poll & Collins, Williamson and Woodhouse are embroiled in scandal, the big political story on Stuff.co.nz is a pre-schooler who jumps on a sandcastle David Cunliffe built.

I shit you not…

Kids hand out playground punishment to Cunliffe
If David Cunliffe had any hope of building an empire in Invercargill, it was quickly crushed by a preschooler.

The Labour Party leader visited Invercargill yesterday, speaking at Grey Power’s annual meeting and visiting Rockdale Park Kindergarten.

Cunliffe took to the sandpit with the preschoolers after talking with teachers and parents about Labour’s Best Start policy for young families. He started joking while making beehive-styled sandcastles.

The first beehive crumbled and Cunliffe made a dig about it being a National-led government.

The second beehive was more successful – almost perfect – and Cunliffe said it was a Labour-led government but one 4-year-old quickly crushed that dream, jumping all over it.

…the sooner this crap is behind a Paywall, the better for democracy in NZ.

  1. Not all political stories have to be heavy, in-depth issues of the day type stories.

I believe there is room in the mainstream media for the odd, lighter political story.

I don’t think voters are going to vote National because a kid jumped on Cunliffe’s sandcastle!

  2. Reminds me of last week on Seven Sharp, on the day Williamson quit, they played a montage of Cunliffe using the same words in different interviews to describe the situation…. Then Hosking spent time digging Into Cunliffe, then his last word speech was how great Wiliamson was and how he oped he could get back n the horse, as it were…..

    Was disgraceful

  3. Totally agree Martyn. The headline alone is an attempt to spin a very innocent story (kids who are unlikely to know anything about politics) into a negative about Cunliffe.

I noticed it before you wrote this article, so glad you picked up on it.

The media have been on a witch hunt against Cunliffe.

A real shame as he is a politician with incredible smarts and an impeccable record. Media look for any tiny thing to spin in a negative way.

Roll on 20th Sept. You will make a terrific PM Mr C.
