A Friday OIA dump  always signals a Minister is in trouble and todays new revelations suggest things just got much, much, much, much worse for Judith Collins…

Mfat briefing requested before Oravida dinner
Justice Minister Judith Collins’ office initially asked for a foreign affairs briefing before a controversial dinner in China with Oravida representatives and an unnamed border official.

Collins has insisted the dinner was a private affair with no official business discussed.

However, documents released to Fairfax Media under the Official Information Act show that five days before the dinner her office sought the briefing from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (Mfat).

…if the dinner was private, why the bloody hell was Collins asking for Mfat briefings? Following the remarkable meltdown by Maurice Williamson, Judith’s indiscretions which haven’t gone beyond beltway outrage start looking like something completely different.

This is the best week the Opposition have had in 2 and a half years, if they can’t make hay from this sunshine next week in Parliament, they may as well go home.

  1. You’ve completely overlooked the most damaging part of the entire release.

Collin’s office advised that nothing was required from MFaT, declined any briefing and advised that “The minister is having a private dinner on the Sunday evening.”

There it is for all to see. A private dinner.

I’m going to love seeing Grant Robertson try to weasel out of this now.

    • Judith Collins office /Judith Collins asked for the briefing, invited the ambassador the ambassador was busy/did not want to go to the dinner, Judith did not not want the briefing so we end up with a private dinner that wasn’t really was it. Does anybody else have dinner parties like this? Not in the real world.

      • Yes, actually, quite frequently. The MFat briefing was not required because there was no business being discussed. Which is not surprising really given the language barriers, and the absence of any translators.

Is that the official government line, Anonymous ACT Supporter Intrinsicvalue?

  2. There is just something deeply, deeply distasteful and disturbing about this current National Party leadership and the way they do stuff. Its really ugly. Naked ambition is unrestrained and they lie to cover their arses. Its excruciating.

    • “I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition which oe’rleaps itself and falls on the other side.”

The Chinese corruption train (PRC border officials and Oravida) has been almost derailed by MFAT, but methinks Lady Macbeth Collins tried to wash her hands of the whole sorry ambitious [Lady Macbeth] situation.

“Will all great Neptune’s ocean wash this blood clean from my hand? No. This my hand will rather the multitudinous seas incarnating making the [blue] one red. ”

When all else fails, blame the following:
      1. Defective/selective memory.
      2. The Labour Party, The Greens, Winston
      3. MFAT or similar .
      4. Alternative reality according to NACT, with the intro …………. “The reality is …. ”

The reality is a National Party racked by Chinese corruption at NZPF, Oravida and Fonterra; Gay-rainbow splinters where splinters are difficut to remove orally; arrogance of Aaron Gilmore; and McCully’s sinecures and corrupt-jobs-for-the-boys in the Jones affair.

“The reality is…. (to use a God-complex National Party starter phrase) …. crony capitalism is alive and well and thriving under the corrupt Tories….

Judith Collins and MFAT’s ‘dump’. is a smelly pile of stinking corruption, beyond belief… it stinks, no matter what colour the political parties and individuals are …..

Corruption is corruption is corruption. No matter what spin you put on it. Rainbow. Blue. Yellow. Or milk-coloured.

      • Even if that were true, an accomplice is not a defence but a confession.

The Oravida links reek to high heaven. No-one tainted by this scandal can pretend to be clean – and the standard required by the cabinet manual: not to give the impression, is that like Caesar’s wife they must be above suspicion.

        They must go.

        • No, the Oravida links are considerably overstated. Collin’s husband is a Director of Oravida, not a Shareholder. Even in the worst case scenario there is pecuniary gain for him in this. That’s the really funny part about this, Labour just don’t understand that most NZ’ers are watching on and laughing at them.

          • Rubbish IV. Oravida and it’s posse have paid over $200 000 to National for a judicial result that enabled them to glom Crafar farms.

This is serious large scale corruption and the bovine Ms Collins’s jaunt to China on our tab is only the tip of the iceberg.

Key is going down like DiCaprio, and if Collins wants to be rescued she’ll need to blow that whistle.

And that didn’t apply to Helen? Do you want a list?

Really? Is that the best you can do?! Point at a previous government and make innuendos?!

            Defection #1, eh; blame Labour.

So you’re not one to take personal responsibility, are you?

You rightwingers are fine with corruption, as long as it’s your bunch doing it.

No, Anonymous ACT Supporter IntrinsicValue, no one is laughing. There’s nothing to laugh about in this matter.

Only you would find a Minister’s discomfort amusing, but then you are quite the freaking fruitloop.

In case you hadn’t noticed, I am exposing the whiff of hypocrisy from the left.

Nah, the only thing you’re “exposing” is your obsessive behaviour.

Deluded as always. You are a joke. 😀

As is your tragic attempts at deflection and trying to blame others.

      • In case you had not noticed Helen is not the Prime Minister, a Minister or even a MP any more. Would you like a list of Rob Mulddons political stuff’ up’s? Because they would be as about relevant as anything that occurred over 5 years ago and dated back a further nine years. John Key crony capitalism is out for all to see and as for standards this National Government will go down as the most corrupt ever.

        • In case you hadn’t noticed, I am exposing the whiff of hypocrisy from the left. And nothing National have done can come anywhere near the 2005 pledge card shenanigans, from which Labour had to legislate to avoid prosecution.

The left have very short memories.

  3. It seems to me that National Party members are all setting themselves up nicely doing the big lolly scramble to line their pockets, so they can survive, and carry on their corruption post-election.

Surely no one in their right mind would vote for a political (corruption) party, knowing full well that the leader of this party is going to step down after the election.

Nats must know this by now.

This will be why Key looks happy – He knows he’s off – to a new financially secure future, that he scrounged off his own countrymen. I wonder how many shares he has in Oravida and Fonterra.

They are dropping like the flies they are.

    Opinion and belief.
