Headline: Is Judith Collins unapologising

Judith Collins appears to have retracted her apology for failing to disclose her meeting with her husband’s fellow company directors and a senior Chinese border control official just weeks after being ticked off by John Key for not doing so, Labour MP Grant Robertson says.

“In Parliament yesterday Judith Collins said she should not have had to put the dinner meeting she had with Oravida’s Directors and the official in her Cabinet report on the visit to China. This is in direct contradiction to her so-called ‘mea gulpa’ a few weeks ago.

“On the 12th of March, under pressure to apologise she told media ‘that It would have been better if I had, um, not treated it like a private dinner, which it was, um, but had actually reported through as a formal report in the Cabinet paper’.

“Judith Collins has made clear that she does not like to apologise. It seems she has now withdrawn from her view that she should have disclosed the dinner.

“This is a problem for John Key.  He made clear at the time of the apology that Judith Collins had ‘misled by omission’ and that he should have been informed of the dinner.

“We are now back to square one with Judith Collins.  She is completely out of touch with New Zealanders if she thinks that she is not accountable for her actions in going to this dinner with her husband’s fellow directors and a Chinese official while on a taxpayer-funded visit.

“John Key needs to pull his Minister back into line if New Zealanders are to have any confidence that his government is working for them, rather than in the interest of their cronies,” Grant Robertson said.
