Thousands protest TPPA in downtown Auckland
Left-wing commentator Martyn Bradbury, who led the Auckland protest, was amazed with the turnout.

“I think that it really shows that economic sovereignty issues are actually quite central to New Zealanders’ concept about who they are and how they see themselves and losing that kind of sovereignty is a major concern — it’s no longer just a fringe issue.”

3000 marching in Auckland alone, with thousands more around 14 other towns and cities was an incredible turn out for the esoteric intricacies of free trade deals.

In Auckland we would like to thank

-Roger Fowler’s band
-Robert Reid – First Union
-David Cunliffe – Labour
-Lisa Er – Founder of Lisa’s Hummus
-Jon Carapiet GM Free
-Jeff Szusterman, Vice-President, Actors Equity
-Moana Maniapoto
-Rangi McLean – Maori Party
-Asenati Lole-Taylor – NZ First
-Jeanette Fitzsimons – Coal Action Network Aotearoa
-Metiria Turei, co-leader of Greens
-John Minto from the MANA Movement

This trade deal is a security leash being forced upon us by America to counter Chinese influence in the Pacific. It is an obscenity to our democracy to allow corporations to dictate domestic law to the Governments, we the people of NZ elect.

This affront to out economic sovereignty can not be allowed to pass.

  1. We had great speakers in Palmerston North …prob just over 100 people..small turn out but nevermind.
Spitting tacks at National Radio pathetic news report this morn I am sure I heard right ..1000 people in Auckland and 200 in Christchurch!!!!!!!?

  2. There was a good turnout in Napier, about 100 people, particularly good turnout from the Mana Movement. Really good energy, so much so that, after a few speeches, we made an unplanned return march down the main street! And all with generally good responses from the general public, even a few people joining in.

  3. Yeah , but jonky’s soaring ahead in the Steven Joyce pimped / TV 3 poles , the cunt .

The time is now to pay your masters jonky , you fucking traitor .

  4. Live in the sticks. Didn’t make it.
    This is important. Majorly important.
    What spin, Grocers comments.

Check out RT – Breaking The Set.

  5. Grocer said that there has been a whole lot of consultation with the stakeholders. Whoever they are? Of which most NZers obviously aren’t. But we are, in so many of the potential consequences.
He also said that the people opposing the TPP are overly politicised. Further arrogance.

  6. The line that sums it all up is TPPA – Taking People’s Power Away. The National response is “the plebs wouldn’t understand what’s good for them”; Labour’s is “let the plebs have a look, but then we’ll probably do it anyway because we support free trade”. It’s great that Lisa of Lisa’s Hummus spoke at the Auckland rally. All Kiwi entrepreneurs and small/medium business people should be speaking out, because they will get screwed by this deal too!
