The sanctimonious crowing by some journalists revelling in the supposed bias of TVNZ is truly cretinous when you check their ‘objectivity’.
What is funny is that most of the audience look at Hosking and Henry and the innate right wing bias of most corporate mainstream media and look at the Taurima issue and point out the outrageous double standard. Veitch had to almost cripple his ex girlfriend before TVNZ bothered to act, Hosking was allowed to host Seven Sharp and Close Up despite being a SkyCity show pony (while they were bribing the Government for a new convention centre built upon problem gambling) and Paul Henry is so far right he makes Caligula look like a Green Party voter.
But what is most angering is that bloody Shane was a fool to have allowed his TVNZ office to be used for a political meeting because in one stupid move he has allowed all the other bias and right wing bullshit spun by the corporate media off the hook. He has allowed right wing pundits and bloggers to claim TVNZ is biased towards the left when nothing could be further from the truth, he has managed to eclipse all the righteous criticism of the mainstream and that is what is most damaging.
Any political career he wanted with Labour must now be seriously questioned because such a poor judgment call suggests he doesn’t have the necessary skills to become an MP.
Meanwhile, Key admits to talking to NZs worst hate speech merchant regularly on the phone.
Thank you for writing about this subject. I have just turned off Breakfast after having to listen to Rawdon Christie, that wannabe British aristocrat having a go at Russell Norman. Now this was after the news, where the Norman/Craig stoush was reported on. He went on and on about the legal technicalities and how Colin Craig WAS wronged and would win in a court case and on and on he went. Same thing when he interviews DonKey he fawns and scrapes over him. It’s a different thing when David Cunliffe is on. So basically we have the Breakfast show as a mouthpiece and cheerleaders for National. How is that fair or unbiased? It’s a complete joke that ANYONE is worried that tvnz will EVER be a mouthpiece for Labour.
Shane will not be popular with Labour to state the obvious. Nor with some of his fellow ex workers.
I hear from several unionists that a witch hunt and reprisals are going on at TVNZ with contracts threatened and a real atmosphere of fear and loathing directed at those not in the tory good ’ol boys club.
Among the sick ironies in this affair, those people under pressure have to put up with their own colleagues reporting the matter on air.
Hoskings, Henry and Veitch are definitely pro National Party supporters I guess they will have to watch the way they put a spin on things in the future.

Yes, sections of the “left” really seem to have been oblivous to how nasty the terrain is since National came to power. Len Brown is an obvious example. If you are an obstacle in their way, you really have to watch your every step. They really have been naive when this should have been obvious all along.
So agree. Labour and the Greens have to be very, very careful. Watch their backs, fronts and sides. There are other powerful interests involved – behind the scenes of course. And who knows what they are capable of.

I almost agree with you except that DonKey isn’t sexy enough to be Lucifer. He’s one of Lucifers GIMPS. Henry et al are the minor supporting gimps. I’m starting to get so paranoid about these nasty little minions, that I’m now worrying about these “minions” CHEATING TO GET IN.
I don’t think TVNZ are institutionally biased either way, but most certainly individual personalities are. On the occasion when I do watch NZ MSM I detect bias both left and right, sometimes covert, often overt. It makes me sick.
The media in NZ have some choices to make.
1. Return to an independent media, where all issues are investigated and all individuals approached with the same fairness and scrutiny,
2. Move all the way to the US style openly partisan media format, or
3. Remain as we are, which is a dishonest place somewhere in between.
For me I support option 1. I don’t want to be told what and how tho think. I don’t want to watch news and current affairs in this country and be treated like an intellectual muppet I want the stories of the day presented to me without fear or favour so tat I can draw my own conclusions, knowing the facts, and devoid of the personalities.
I think the difference is that Shane is saying he did not show bias where as the other three mentioned go out of their way to show exactly that.
Hosking and Henry are definitely National Party Rah Rah Boys they are quite open about it. Hopefully the media will hold them to account in the future.
It’ll be interesting what will happen to Henry after the job is done and Key is re-elected. I bet you they bring Nightline back.
Beats me how anyone can watch that guy longer than a minute. Same for Hosking. They got nothing of interest to offer, just opinionated babble. The ‘great pretender’ song always springs to mind.
Yes, it’s very annoying to hear and read for days how a Labour man used TVNZ when at the same time the entire media are stacked with National Party cheer leaders. But hey, God gave us the off-button for a reason. Use it.
Couldn’t agree with you more. Hoskings looks like he could do with a weeks worth of laxatives and what comes out of his mean little mouth is worse. We should pay these untalented little pricks way less, more in line with ordinary people. Maybe then they wouldn’t be so quick to protect their greedy bosses, and might see things in a more balanced way.
…. and there are better people who would do it with integrity for less.
I have noticed in comments that people regularly resort to derogatory language on Henry – because he makes them angry with his insincerity, his pretentious smile, his groundless superiority, his shallow nothingness, his subliminal right wing messages, his hidden meanness (dickshit).
Just don’t watch it.
Definitely hit the OFF button or change channels if either Henry or Hoskings are near the show can’t stomach either of them.
I don’t mind Henry he makes no secret of his right wing leanings, I have seen him take the piss out of act, the conservatives and national MP’s regularly on his show. Hosking on the other hand … is the national parties mouth piece he pukeingly praises them on his breakfast show: I heard him basically defend Steven Joyce and gang up against Annette king, talking over her, letting Joyce get most of the air time. Did he not heard he has also MC at a recent national conference? Then the skycity trifecta and runs off regular tear worthy praise of the nats.
