Cameron Slater – the wolf that cried boy

No one should have death threats and no one should have their family threatened, and anyone using those tactics should face the full force of the law. We may disagree with each other vigorously and we may be offended to outrage, but death threats and threats of violence to ones family has no place in civil society.

All that said and noted, what I find most extraordinary about Cameron’s current wallowing in victimhood is how utterly disconnected he is from his actions of abuse and bullying. He is the wolf that cried boy.

Cam, mate, you just need to swallow your pride and admit you got this one wrong champ, that calling a dead man who as a backseat passenger had no responsibility in his own death as ‘feral’ was you just being a mean arsehole for no real reason. Sometimes in the heat of blogging we all go a bit too far, when we do, we back up and apologise and try better next time. To unblinkingly stare down the TV camera stating that you have nothing to apologise for comes across as a bit pathological and disturbed.

Cam, you do have to apologise, calling someone feral and proclaiming their death as a good job for the planet is just cruel and if you can’t apologise for cruelty then what the hell can you apologise for?

I’m sorry you have had a death threat and your family have been dragged into this, but pointing to that as your reason to not apologise isn’t making you the better person, it’s making you a petty wounded person.

You are better than this Cam. Barely. But you are. Apologise to the family and try not to be as offensive next time.

  1. This is one whale likely headed for extinction that will not be missed by many.

A long list of people have no sympathy for him and why should they really. If he properly addressed his own pain maybe he would stop inflicting hurt on others. The alternative, that he is a conscious sociopath means he deserves a double order of whatever he gets from those he has victimised and bullied.

Whichever it is, genuinely mentally ill or ugly Nat junior stasi one thing is for sure: WhaleSpew must cease blogging for a long long time.

  2. Cameron Slater “better than that”. I don’t know that he is. His hateful website has been consigned to the great web cloud in the sky (or maybe a bit lower than that), perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad thing if it state there

  3. This is on a par with the ‘fags must die’ crew in the states that protest the funerals of Iraqi soldiers who died, in their view, because of the growth of gay pride. Those religious protesters in the states (putting it nicely) say something similar to Cam – the death was a good thing, somehow there is cause for celebrating a tragic death.

  4. Without being facetious, I honestly believe – given his past and present behaviour – that you are requesting something that Cameron Slater is unable to provide.

He has shown that he does not have the capacity to consider those points that have been raised, and to me, has a disability in terms of thought processes and empathy.

You are asking someone who cannot walk – to pull up their socks.

I feel sympathy for the family who he has harmed with his words, but in reality, his words are an echo chamber for a flawed world view and a ranting incomplete man. They should be given little consideration by the family who know and lived the truth of their son, friend, relative and loved one.

Can you even imagine the world Cameron Slater lives in – that makes him think in such a way? How small, how limited.

The man and his world view is pitiful. I don’t know how anyone could help him at present.

  5. why does anyone read his blog?

and why oh why does the NZ media give so much space to this guy?

seriously, I really don’t get it

unless…. it’s because a great number of people are thinking what he’s saying…. which is a scary thought.

    • People read what he says – because he does not have the internal boundaries that limit behaviour and speech to acceptable levels – and they get a vicarious thrill out of being close to it.

Somewhat similar to the thrill that is marketed extremely well to NZ’ers regarding sports – eg. rugby, yachting etc.

And what I experience when watching this.

Would never do it myself – but fascinated by those who do.

      Human nature…

      • … not that I go anywhere near his site mind you.

My internal values mean that I look for this where others are not maligned or denigrated in any way…

    • Hi Lara

Cameron’s is one of many blogs I read across the political spectrum. I read it because he breaks stories the MSM don’t, and because he presents a point of view that reflects the opinions of many NZ’ers (although not always mine). WOBH is by far the most read blog. Love him or hate him, he’s here to stay, and just like the Daily Blog I am glad for that.

I don’t agree with what Cameron said in this case, but i will defend to the hilt his right to say it. It was opinion, and none of us have an automatic right to take offence. None of us. Remember it is only the likes of Cameron Slater, David Farrar, Martyn Bradbury, etc etc who seperate us from the incompetence of the MSM.

Finally, if you look at the way in which some politicians (particularly the PM) are described on LW blogs, the vitriol Cameron used is mild by comparison. The people who have threatened him and his family, and have sought to censor his opinions, are scumbags.

      • I agree with your first paragraph, but you are wrong when you say “none of us have an automatic right to take offence”. Offence can only ever be taken, it cannot be given. Anyone has the right to take offence to anything that anyone says or does, but that does not necessarily mean their position is valid or that the so-called offender has done something wrong.

Where Cameron falls into questionable territory is that he often claims to offer something superior to that of MSM…all the while dragging himself & others through the gutter. He is not a journalist & will never be considered one precisely because he is vulgar & tends to shoot from the hip before even attempting to gain the facts.

He has every right to say that Judd Hall is a feral west coaster & that the world is better off without him. By the same measure the NZ Press Council has the right to continue to refuse him access & those of us with some sense of decency also have the right to say he is without a moral compass. His family also have the right to grieve without some idiot blogger dragging the memory of their son through the muck.

Judd Hall was in the car 15minutes before it crashed. He is hardly to blame. His only fault was that he made a mistake when he chose to go out with his friends that night – something that Cameron of all people should be able to empathise with as after all, his mistakes are frequent & often public knowledge.

In terms of the commentary of LW blogs that you refer to – that is one blog, The Standard. And no it is not worse, it is pretty much on par with Whale oil as both share a deep love of guttersnipes. Both go beyond the pale more often than not.

Yes those who made threats against him were wrong to do so, but let’s be clear here: anyone who has ever read his blog or twitter feed knows that more often than not he is a hair breadths away from inciting violence and/or taunting others. He loves the game of cat & mouse & always thinks he has the upper hand, that he can handle anything.

In this case he has proven he can’t as the second the play got a little too rough he went running to the media – the same media he has mocked & ridiculed since his blog first began.

While Cameron is usually in the clear legally he is hardly ever on the right side of morality.

        • There are screenshots going around facebook where Cameron Slater was talking about his guns being by his side, loaded and ready to be used on ‘those ferals’. This behaviour is definitely on the wrong side of the law and I am dumbfounded as to how he can maintain a gun license.

          • Yes I saw that too. It is actually very difficult to get a license off someone once they have been granted one. Even so, I have often wondered how it is that Cameron still manages to have a gun license considering the deranged lunacy he often exhibits on line, but those comments are actually illegal & usually mean instant loss of license. Perhaps Aunty Jude protects him from Tolley. Who knows.

        • Well said. I’m not sure how you can justify the comment about Cameron being on the wrong side of morality, but all in all I find your comments clear and on the mark.

          • Wrong side of morality? Well, his cheating for a start, holding others to a higher standard he is willing to meet himself, claiming a benefit whilst blogging 16 hours a day, ridiculing an overweight 10 year old boy who was upset he couldn’t play rugby with his own age. These are but a few examples. I am sure the Paepae, Martyn & Frank et al have more!

            • Hmmm, I should be keeping track, Unsol, but there just aren’t enough hours in the day… (If only I could clone myself!)

On occassion, folks have brought things to my attention, but… well… the moment passes.

I was aware of his treatment of that Ports of Auckland worker whose wife died from cancer, and Slater did a real “number” on the poor guy. That was just unreal, and I blogged on that issue.

From memory, that was about it…

            • Oh I hear what you’re saying. I guess my comment was a bit of a dig at the selective and subjective morality that seems to apply to the left at times.

      • So why is it ok for him to be offensive and not others??? Those death threats come from hurt, grieving, frustrated, shocked and I’m guessing young people that did not take kindly to their friend being slandered before his body has even been released to his family. No one here on the feral West Coast could even be bothered going to Auckland to find the vial excuse of a human being that is Cameron Slater, they are crippled with grief right now and lashing out. Hmmm freedom of speech oh dont be offended? Yeah right

        • “So why is it ok for him to be offensive and not others??? ”

I draw the line at death threats. Do you?

          • I try to draw a line between nice and not nice. Between thoughtful and hurtful, between considerate and inconsiderate.

Death threats are in the exact same bag as Cameron’s comments. You are entitled to say “You can’t compare them”- But i can and do. In fact I think Slater is actually worse. But of course I didn’t get to write the rulebook.

Why do so many posters so neatly align morality with legality? Most of the time-bad things are illegal, but not all illegal things are bad, and certainly not all legal things are good.

In my book-his behaviour is just as bad as those doing the threats- yes even the ones threatening his daughter. The problem is that the only bad behaviour we can actually legislate against is the language of threat and violence, and not the horrible hurtful disdainful bile he spews.

            • To Frank and Jeeves

I value life and I value liberty. If you equate a verbal spray with threatening someones life then I can’t help you. If you so desire to restrict freedom of speech to what is ‘nice’ for you, then I can’t help you.

PS…Let me make this clear, as I have done previously. I find the comments made by WO to be abhorrent. I also find the claims of holocaust deniers to be abhorrent. However if we live in a truly free society, we should allow these views to be aired, and for the freedom of the public domain to determine societies reaction, not threats of violence.

  6. It’s a bit difficult to read the post in question as the site has been Hakz0rd but I do have an archive here:

    http://archive.is/bEcuN

In my view, the off-colour bit is the headline
The rest is mostly a dig at the MSM coverage of the incident

    • Too bad verbal gymnastics aren’t an Olympic sport – he’d be in for silver at least with this one.

      Slater opens with:

“But upon reading the story you find that there wasn’t actually a police chase.

Then after quoting a couple of articles, returns with:

“Why don’t the news agencies put headlines that match the stories…some feral tried to evade the police, they wound up dead by smacking into some innocent homeowners house. But instead the media try to lay the blame with the police.”

If Slater split that hair any thinner, he’d cause a nuclear reaction. How one tries to evade the police while not being chased by them is beyond me. No wonder he likes to titillate his audience with shock and awe headlines – if you look past them, he argues his points terribly.

      • Cemetry you just have that plain wrong. You can indeed evade the police without the police without the police actually chasing you. Believe me, I’ve done it. You get to know they are looking for you, and simply drive off somewhere where you think they won’t find you. No chase. Plenty of evasion.

        • Having said that, based on the polices own statement, there was no chase. They say the police ‘pursued’ a car for about 800 metres only before giving up. That’s not a chase. It barely qualifies as a pursuit.

        • But in the specific context which applies – the one in which this kid died – why would they have needed to evade the police unless they were aware of them chasing them?

And without making 2 replies to your replies, I am interested; in this specific context, what is the difference between the police chasing a car and pursuing it?

          • Oh I hear what you’re saying. I guess my comment was a bit of a dig at the selective and subjective morality that seems to apply to the left at times.

          • 1. A chase is someone following you. A pursuit is someone following you with the intention of catching you. For example you can chase someone off your property with absolutely no intention of catching them.

            2. There are many reasons to evade the police without actually knowing or even suspecting the police are chasing you. A driver with a high drug or alcohol content comes to mind.

            • Indeed, but neither of those two contexts apply here; we’re talking about the police attempting to pull over a car for dangerous driving. In such a context, a police pursuit, or police chase, are both undertaken for the same purpose.

  7. Cameron wonders why his family has been dragged into this well the answer is quite clear don’t u think?

  8. Whale Slime and Kiwi Bog are the two Tory Blogsites which are hard hitting and controversial, however Whale Slime and Key go running off to the Police when they get a reverse serve, they need to harden up and have a cup of concrete. If you give it out and can’t take it back you are basically lilly livered.

  9. There’s no shame or loss of face in apologising if we f**k up. It just reaffirms our humanity.

Heck, I even apologised to Dear Leader Key on my blog when I screwed up. http://fmacskasy.wordpress.com/2012/09/04/prime-minister-committs-nz-troops-to-next-us-led-conflict-zone/ (Not that he probably noticed.)

For Cam not to apologise – ever – has disturbing implications about his psyche.

On the issue of disturbing things – people need to lay of death threats. They are not cool. Especially when made against innocent people who are innocent of Slater’s fuckwitry.

  10. Slater is a naive sensationalist who believes he can cut the mustard with the big boys . He doesn’t have the finesse for the job sadly for him . He will instead be simply loathed as a fool and will disappear like a turd down the toilet . The only thing that will be left of him , and his ilk , will be an uncomfortable stain on the underpants of society .

  11. Is Cam going to apologise to Bevan Chuan too, perhaps? He created so many “devil scenarios”, and so much evil, does anybody seriously want to forgive him for all that crap and damage he did to others?

Come on, cry baby, CAM, get fucked!

    • Oh come on Marc. Chuang is an adult who had a 2 year affair with a very prominent and very married man. She of all people is owed nothing.

  12. It was reported that the car in which he was a passenger reached speeds of 140kmh. The limit was 50kmh. Do you not think that passengers have some responsibility to ensure cars are driven safely?

      • Exactly. I can remember jumping in the car with a friend of a friend in my late teens. Twenty minutes later I was cowering in the backseat, hands over my head as I awaited the seemingly inevitable crash that would kill me. The guys just thought it was funny that I was screaming in terror. What was I gonna do – jump out of a moving vehicle at 140 kph?

Point is if you weren’t there, you don’t know, and it is pretty unfair to cast any aspersions whatsoever on the victim. He wasn’t driving and he wasn’t responsible for the crash that killed him.

  13. Slater is actually living in his own world, spouting forward what is going on in his mind reflecting the way he interprets the world and what is going on around him.

Obviously Slater and Farrar of Kiwi Bog do not see much of the outside world as they are so busy behind their computer screens, rakking up the rapid dogs that feed on the tripe they manufacture.

Reminds me of the German propaganda machine during the Second World War and Enrich Goebbels. The Tories will do anything for a good story or diversion, classic Honest John stuff the other day, the heat starts coming on, so he brings up the Flag Issue to change the subject.

The Press in NZ are still madly in love with the Wizard of Wall Street and don’t realise he is just a smiling a*******e.

  14. Cameron Slater is a classic bully, end of. Whilst I defend free speech, I don’t support raves, one would have to question, his sobriety, state of mind, or perhaps he has been down to his local legal high shop and smoked some k2 again? What a cowardly piece of scat, first having an uncalled poke at the dead, secondly unable to understand he was wrong and then beig unable to apologise.

  15. Opportunities for an apology at the start were missed, now this thing is getting bigger and full of too many moving parts? Is there any coming back from this?
