The green the Greens don’t want to spark up

The reluctance of the Greens to get involved in the Cannabis debate is pretty obvious. The immaturity of the NZ political class and mainstream media make the debate almost impossible in this country.

While America is giving up on the war on drugs and as other countries start progressive roll backs of cannabis prohibition, NZ’s lack of political maturity means the debate is being avoided here.

The sudden flurry of news articles wanting to focus on cannabis and the Greens is not an attempt at debating the issue, the point is to paint the Greens out to be stoners and Patrick Gower’s repeated questioning of Cunliffe yesterday on the issue was designed to generate heat, not light.

Despite the inability for the mainstream media to discuss cannabis reform, The Daily Blog will live stream this years Cannabis debate which I will host on the 20th March. We will have world leading experts leading the discussion and the main political parties have been invited to state their position.

If the media won’t debate the issue properly, we will.

  1. Gotta admit that it was a pretty shrewd move from Gower. If Cunliffe said he may even think about it, then that becomes the political story of the day and the speech becomes second page news. But if Cunliffe said yes, which of course he did, then there are apparently massive ideological differences between the Greens and Labour.

My question to Paddy Gower would be – did the $43 million dollar interest free loan bribe come with these plans, or did you think these up yourself?

  2. Maybe marijuana law reform could be sold to the public as as need for medicinal cannabis to help people recover from the harm caused by legal highs.

Yes, that is clear, there are many out wanting to simply discredit the Greens, while they simply are pro decriminalization, which is not the same as “legalisation”.

I could not believe what I saw and heard on TV3 news tonight. There I saw the “media pack”, like a pack of hyenas or hungry jackals chasing after David Cunliffe in the hallways of Parliament. They also went after David Clark, who was a bit stupid and let himself get cornered, leading to the alleged story, he would consider “banning” Facebook, if they would not pay taxes as they should do.

The New Zealand media is at this early time in election year like in a feeding frenzy, like blood thirsty sharks, out to get scandals, contradictions, wrong claims and more exposed.

Are they all worried about their jobs now, while advertising revenue may be declining, and more people using the internet to read up news, and to also engage via social media and various blogs?

I have never seen so much crap being “reported”, and it is getting worse by the year. Patrick Gower is one of the worst out there. And so many put their personal “views” to stories now, be this on radio, television, or in various articles in print and online media.

How deep is the gutter, how low will they go? By the way, I hear that Cam Slater seems to claim, his blog, or him personally, received threats, and the police are investigating. Is this for real, or is it made up, to get yet more attention?

In scrutinise every story coming through the MSM now, there is too much not worth any attention anymore. And election year has just started!?

  4. Pot is , according to Hank Bukowski , all ‘ Awwww man , what ever .
If you’re going to be anything , be an alcoholic . ‘

Pot does have it’s limitations . It can get one stoned but really ? True bliss is a happy reality .

The difference between a democracy and a dictatorship is that in a democracy you vote first and take orders later; in a dictatorship you don’t have to waste your time voting.

  5. Cool 😀

Would be very interesting to hear from The Greens what their actual cannabis policy entails these days. The previous effort (a PMB from Metiria Turei) had some rather egregious flaws in it, [discussed here: http://puttingnzfirst.blogspot.co.nz/2014/01/post-420-part-1-were-on-greenest-greens.html ], and I’m wary as to what they’re *actually* proposing as a reform measure before jumping up and down in excitement about what they may or may not “push for” in their coalition talks with Labour later this year.

  6. Jokes about Marijuana smokers always having the munchies and being dopey are as played out as Led Zeppelin and Fleetwood Mac (but that doesn’t mean all aren’t enjoyable when one chooses one’s moments wisely)
