  1. Ummmm… what is your point?

The Government has acted in a fiscally sensible manner. The economy is growing at a good rate and now can sustain higher spending. Hence why they are going to pay more in education now.

I suspect there will be more spending in other areas as well. Stay tuned.

    • “The Government has acted in a fiscally sensible manner.”

Yeah, right, get the Tui board out, Gosman!

Offering carrots to a fair few principals and teachers, to detect and promote “achievers”, that is simply a divide and rule approach, nothing else. And that is what this government does, it rewards it’s own traditional voter base, and it neglects those that will never vote National anyway.

This is designed to divide teachers and their unions, and to undermine their influence, same as they did with unions in general when bringing in the Employment Contracts Act in 1991 or 1992.

No kid that already comes from poor and disadvantaged backgrounds will benefit from higher paid principals and “elite” teachers, when they still have to go to school hungry and poorly clothed and looked after.

Why do National always only reward a few, who already do well, and shit on the rest? It would make more sense to pay teachers better across the board, and above all ensure better working conditions, by sharing the responsibilities with perhaps a few more teachers. But now, we cannot have that.

Don’t forget the high paying jobs for their mates that this will create as well.

  2. Key is taking the business consultant’s approach to the problem – name a few more positions, with absolutely no clarity about why they will exist, and pay a few people more. In other words, divide and conquer the workforce while pretending to do something about education.

  3. this is quite hard to read.

It’s good that the government have recognised that the education system is fucked.

It’s bad that they lack the ideas to do anything positive about it. We need to be adopting a better education system, not creating middle management positions for the broken one.

  4. Yet another Classic national lazy arse policy to appear Like they are doing some thing, when in actual fact they are doing nothing to help the education of kids & our poor international ranking which has happened under nationals inept governance.
But what they are doing Like usual Will cost NZ more down the line financially and more so socially.
Dodgy John Key the master of deception strikes again.
