The GCSB have received their $1m pound of flesh from the peace protestors who righteously popped the dome covering of the American spy base in Waihopai.

After losing their first legal battle against Father Peter Murnane, Adrian Leason and Sam Land, the Crown on behalf of the GCSB took a civil action against them for costs.

In a world where Governments illegally spy upon their citizens and then imprison those who point this illegality out, the idea that 3 men who could not in good conscience stand by while a base involved in illegally spying on the UN and co-ordinating the deaths of civilians in whatever part of the planet America is carpet bombing for peace should be pursued by the Crown in a civil action for $1.2m in damages is a sad comment on justice.

The real insult to injury is that the costs include pies, beers and juices of the contractors who repaired the dome.

When those of conscience who rise against American hegemony can be punished by our own Government in this manner, it shows how much of a subservient gimp we have become to Uncle Sam.

Father Peter Murnane, Adrian Leason and Sam Land are heroes and we should be encouraged by their actions to demand that we cease being America’s fifth eye. The revelations of how far reaching the NSA mass surveillance program really is should be the clarion call that awakens a new thirst for independence out from under the yoke of corporate American interests dressed up as National Security concerns.

Our silence is beneath us.

  1. Yes they are heroes, and the silence is sad. How can it cost that much to patch up a hole and pump up the stupid bubble? What a sick state of affairs…I feel really sorry for them, have they been thrown in jail also like the Greenpeace activists in Russia? Then there is Julian Assange, Snowden, Chelsea Manning, Pussy Riot. How many others are going to be victims of a corrupt state.

  2. Thankyou Martyn for once again reassuring me that New Zealand does still produce great journalists. The insults to our intelligence and against the heart and soul of NZ offered almost daily by the national goons has begun to really hurt. It’s a relief having someone express it so succinctly, almost therapeutic. You know if you look at the right angle you can almost see where Americas hand goes up John Keys arse.

  3. Has anyone looked into the treason laws recently? I’d like to bring the members of the National Party to book for treason. I do not believe the Government of the day is above whatever laws it enacts in this matter.

John Key and his Party have sold out this country to the Yanks and Fat Cat corporates. Observe the sycophantic lap-dog complaisance to American diktat, its acceptance of global spying, even unto conniving at the same at the expense of its own citizens. Contrast these behaviours with the likes of Brazil and Germany and Russia, who, made rudely aware that the United States is no friend even in fair weather, are taking measures against U.S. violations of International Law.

I will be fascinated to discover in what form John Key et al will be receiving their thirty pieces of silver. For a Government that is a by-word for cheapness, the Nats come damned expensive!
    Cheers,
    Ion

    • I couldn’t agree with you more. When I saw him on the news saying he’s STILL going to sell Genesis next year I almost burst a blood vessel. What with that and the sly laws he keeps passing in the face of public opinion Mr Key has gone from DICK to DICTATOR in 3 ugly moves. I wish we could have an election now, before he completely shits all over our beautiful country.

  4. Ok . Lets close our borders to US money lenders , kick out all american corporations , declare war on the cunts then send our leaky frigate to sink jonky’s gin palace in Hawaii . ( I assume he has one there . )

Call in the Mc Donalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken NZ CEO’s to meet with our Ministers , because they’re our masters , not countries or their normal human inhabitants who’re represented by Embassy staff on our soil .

When you stop to think about it , it’s pretty fucking weird if you ask me .
Corporates are doing this to our Hero bubble poppers , not the general population of the USA and it’s our hook nosed , pasty faced , money fetishist johnk-stien who smirks and shrugs at the outrageous injustice of this funky , nuttiness .

Father Peter Murnane, Adrian Leason and Sam Land ? Write out a nice big fat post dated cheque . For say 21 st July 4998 . Jonky-stien won’t be able to resist the temptation of compounding interest .

    In all seriousness however .

Just don’t pay it and ask New Zealand to help you say ‘ Fuck Off ! ‘
Give me a time and a date and by Jesus I’ll be there . ( That one’s for you Father Peter Murnane )

  5. @ Ion . Exactly ! That’s why I wrote a letter to the Queen . The Neo Liberals are treasonous . I’d a thought it was pretty bloody clear but HRH just fobbed me off to wee Jazza or Lieutenant General Sir Jeremiah “Jerry” Mateparae . I get the feeling he’s just a puppet like Len Brown . They both have that same weird energy . Hollow men .

  6. “In a world where Governmentst illegally spy on their citizens, and then imprison those who point this illegality out…”

No 1) This is proof that instead of “government”, there is now been happening by stealth.. “Tyranny”.
Tyranny is all about ABUSE of power, and NON RECOGNITION OF HUMAN RIGHTS .
No 2)It takes a naive general public years to collectively register that something SERIOUSLY WRONG is afoot.
    3) By the time they twig, (years later after the early warning signs) it’s too late!.Too damned late.
How does a people prevent Tyrannical Rule? They can’t, unless they recognise the early warning signs.
New Zealanders have no experience with this in their past, so woefully, they will get what’s coming. (Like lambs to the proverbial Slaughter, I’m sorry to say)

  7. I agree, but one thing to note is that this isn’t the final decision but just one step along the way (assuming they want to keep fighting it)… a couple of years ago in the high court, the crown were awarded summary judgment (i.e. judgment in their favour without giving the sued a proper trial to raise their defenses), and now the summary judgment has been upheld in appeal court… the next step is supreme court which seems more likely to overturn things than appeal court (cf. Urewera 17). But even that might only be an appeal for the right to a trial, rather than an appeal against the judgment itself (I think?)
