We need to move the Labour Party Coup Watch up from yellow to orange. There is now a high risk of a Labour Party Coup.

With a senior MP leaking to the media that there is a chance of a Spring move against Shearer, the facade of unity is over. There are real questions now as to whether Shearer is the man, or whether the ABC clique that has moved heaven and hell to block Cunliffe are ultimately robbing Labour of a victory next year.

Shearer’s inability to get better at media interviews has never been solved and his uncertainty and poor political management are now simply too glaringly obvious for any of Team Robertson to ignore.

TDB Recommends NewzEngine.com

Everything we are hearing at TDB from Ikaroa-Rawhiti is negative for Labour. If Labour only manage to squeeze out a win with less than a 1000 majority, the blame will turn on Shearer and a spill could be sooner than Spring.

The Australian Labour Party’s leadership spill over hasn’t helped.

Shearer’s fate, rightly or wrongly will be decided on Saturday night. If Labour have a majority over 1000, Shearer holds on till Spring, if Labour do poorly he won’t.

  1. Shearer has to go! I can’t fathom another three years of Key! So please for the sake of all New Zealander’s can we have a new leader!

    • If Shearer goes and the ABC put in Robertson; Labour are still toast. That smarmy pug-faced mumma’s boy. has ‘kick me’ written on his forehead. The only sensible tactical move is to put up Cunliffe, at least he is passionate, intelligent and can match Key, toe for toe in a debate. Isn’t that what you want from a leader?

  2. I’d like to know who Gower’s source is? He/She (he probably)is pre empting a coup, its not if but when now for Shearer…which is good news.

But still plenty of poison (Gowers source) in Labour caucus to cause more trouble. More than Shearer need to disappear before Labour comes right, but its a good start.

    • Aye, there’s the rub. Without knowing the source of Gower’s information, we can’t judge the validity or strength of it. In effect, we’re only getting half the story and is not very helpful.

  3. Because I am relatively disinterested in Labour, I find I only know of Cunliffe and Dalziel in the Cunliffe camp, but nearly all in the Shearer camp.
Now politics and voting is personal, and I find Cunliffe extremely unattractive. But if the Labour leader changes and the party gets better ratings, conservative supporters of NZ First like me would probably go back to safe camp NZ Nat.

  4. Unfortunately Shearer conveys a lack of strength. Unless he goes mongerel on Key today he will be ousted around October
